The Pop Shoppe Lime Ricky Soda

The story behind The Pop Shoppe and it all started in 1969. According to The Pop Shoppe, “Two straight-laced business guys from London, Ontario who are clearly not into music have a great idea: make their own pop and sell it from their own stores. They figure that without a middleman, they can sell their amazing pop at an amazing price, and bam! “The pop Shoppe” is born.” The Lime Ricky is one of their original flavors. In 1972, it was a big hit and the supply can’t keep up with the demand. In 1975, Pop Shoppe started to show up in the U.S in 11 states and the sales were great. After number of years with slow sales, The Pop Shoppe was in down hill and many stores didn’t survive.  In 2004, the brand was re-launched and many classic flavors were introduced to the public again. Upon busting the cap, there’s a strong lime aroma coming out from the glass bottle and it reminded of lime flavored Gatorade Sports drink. The color of the drink was obviously in green color and the texture was the same as your regular soda drink. The very first sip tasted similar to lime flavored hard candy. As you sip more, you could sense the sweet taste wasn’t that heavily sweetened and the lime flavor was refreshing as well. The soda drink it self was smooth and very easy to drink. How ever, after chugging down half bottle of this Lime Rocky soda, the sweet taste didn’t taste that pleasant. When your mouth processes the sip, you first sense the lime flavor and then the sweet taste. After you swallow down the sip, there’s a subtle tart taste at the end. The aftertaste for this soda drink left a slight lime flavor in your mouth for a bit.

Overall, the taste wasn’t that bad and it would be great if the sweetener was real sugar and it would also be great if there’s more carbonation in the drink. If you don’t mind the HFCS, then you might want to try this lime drink out.
