New Mountain Dew Kickstart Breakfast Drinks
Sparkling juice beverage from Mountain Dew! Pepsico Mountain Dew recently rolled out a new line of beverage called Kickstart and it “offers a refreshing and energizing take on your morning routine.” The reason behind it was “Our consumers told us they are looking for an alternative to traditional morning beverages – one that tastes great, includes real fruit juice and has just the right amount of kick to help them start their days,” according to Pepsico. Currently there are two flavors available: Orange Citrus and Fruit Punch. Each flavor contains 5% juice with 92mg of caffeine and it comes with 16 fl oz size can. The design on the can is very appealing.
Mountain Dew (Mtn Dew) Kickstart Orange Citrus
Before I start drinking it, I let it chill a bit in the fridge. There’s a refreshing orange aroma coming out from the can right after you open it and you could recognize the “Dew” scent if you sniff it around the opening for couple seconds. The color for this breakfast drink was the same as your regular orange juice that you drink every day. As for the texture, even though it only contains 5% juice, you could still see that difference when you pour it out comparing to a full carbonated drink. The very first sip tasted similar to orange flavored drinks that were made from powder packets. Also, the orange flavor fades away instantly after you swallow down the sip. After couple more sips, the orange taste still wasn’t that convincing and if you had to describe it, then I would say it’s probably close to tangerine or artificial tangerine. As you drink more, you could sense a subtle bitterness at the end after you swallow down the sip. Also, the flavor did not add up during the whole process, but the dryness feeling in the mouth appeared very fast. The sweet taste wasn’t like the sweet taste that you had experienced when you were eating an orange.
Mountain Dew (Mtn Dew ) Kickstart Fruit Punch
Just like the Orange Citrus flavor, I opened the can after chilling it in the fridge. The aroma coming out from the can was again refreshing and the only smell that I could think of comparing to this fruit punch was Hawaiian Punch. The color and the texture were both similar to other fruit punch drinks with the exception of carbonation. The first sip tasted lightly fruity or tropical flavor. Just like the Orange Citrus flavor, the taste fades away so fast that you couldn’t even get a chance to enjoy it. After couple more sips, the tart taste got a bit stronger than the sweet taste and fruity taste becomes less appealing than the first sip. The dryness feeling in the mouth appeared about the same time compares to the Orange Citrus during the drinking process. After finishing half of the can, the fruity or tropical taste becomes more like lightly sweetened fruity flavored candy taste.

Overall, both flavors were easy and pleasant to drink, but there’s difference when comparing to the natural flavors. Personally, I would choose the Orange Citrus over the Fruit Punch. Also, the KICK was definitely there and it would have been better taste if the drinks were sweetened by real sugar instead of HFCS. Do you want to drink these for breakfast?
