The Starbucks iPhone iPod Touch Applications provides a lot of useful and cool features that will make your experience of getting a coffee a lot easier.  One of the features that I consider most useful is the store locator because it provides not only the closest location of the store, but also shows the direction, store hours and stores with drive through service.  I hope Starbucks will not hate me for this because sometime I use the app to find a restroom. Hey, when you need to piss, nothing matters right?

Apart from the store location feature, there are servers more useful ones. The drink builder in the app allows you to build your own customized coffee drink. You can make either a hot coffee drink or a cold one. For each different drink that you want to make, it comes with many options for you to adjust to the drink. For example, you can adjust how much milk you want to add to your drink and add the kind of toppings, syrups, shots and add-in you want from default. After your drink has been made, you can give it name and shared it with your friends. The food menu provides a whole list of food items that Starbucks sell in the store and each item contains nutrition information and the allergens.  Another feature is the coffee menu, it shows many categories on brand coffees and each has a description and photos for the specific coffee.

This app helps so much for those who constantly looking for place to buy good quality coffees when traveling because they will always know where to go buy coffee.  From Starbucks addict customer point of view, the app should be constantly updating the latest information on store locations and let their own employees know that there’s an Starbucks iPhone app so that they will know what customer are talking about when comes to ordering a drink.

The app tells you how hot the water should be and how long you should steep your tea for each different kind of teas, but it did not provide different methods on how you should brew the tea. There are many approaches or methods to brew the tea and if you didn’t brew it correctly, then you won’t be able to get the true taste out of it. Also, they didn’t mention if the tea is common or rare in each category. By the way, you can use the music in the Tea Timer to help you relax and put you to sleep. It’s better to taste the tea first in the store before you buy it and try it out for yourself.

The app basically offers three main functions and it comes with minimalist interface style design. The first function provides a list of nearby places where they are having happy hours based on your current location detected by the app. The second function allows user to search by zip code or address and the result will give you a list of happy hour places based on that search. The third function provides a map that allows you to see where they are located and how you can get there by car. The list that generated by the app can be sorted by miles, by alphabetically order, by time, or by the price.  For each bar in the list, the app tells you whether they accept credit card or not and I think it’s very important since everyone uses credit cards.  You can also search for future date and time for happy hours and you can send suggest changes within the app if you think the current information is not up to date.

If you are a regular happy hour kind of guy, then you will know if the information provided by the app is useful or not. This app is also great for those who travels very often and loves to drink.  Also, if you think that bar you usually go to is not on the list when you do a search, then you should visit boomtown apps website and add it to their database. Maybe they should add a recommended feature based on your current location or search because it will help new visitors to the town or city to find a good place to get drinks.

I personally like this app because it is easy to use, offers great advice, and it’s FREE. Also, the description is easy to understand for novice wine drinkers and a chance for those who have a little bit of wine knowledge to explore different possibilities.  For a person who does not drink wine and needs to give a gift or planning an event for friends or family that involves wine, this app will help you save a lot of headaches. If you like what you’ve tried, you can share it using Twitter and Facebook from the app.  I wonder what will happen, if I go into a liquor store and ask the personnel, “What would be the best wine to go with an egg roll?”

In my opinion, they should add a feature based on the wine price range or healthy wines to drink feature.

The whole interface of the app navigates through five main functional features. When you load the app, the first thing you will see is the Top 25 Cocktails drinks list. I’m not sure how they come up with the list. But, it could be randomly generated or based on the popularities of the mix. The next feature category is the Browse all cocktails. Basically, it gives you the whole database of all the cocktail recipes that are mixed with Bacardi.  Within the feature, you can search the database by cocktail Style, Glass type, Ingredient and product Type.  If you do not want to search, you can use the Filter feature that’s implemented within the app. It gives you the same result as using a search, but rather more organized in display. The next feature is called the Your Shopping List.  The purpose is to provide a check list of all the ingredients that are needed to make the cocktail for the recipe that was added to the shopping list. So when you go shopping, you can check off the ingredients one by one. The next feature is Your favorite Cocktails.  It’s a list of cocktail recipes that you would like to make or interested in sharing with others. The last feature is the Featured Cocktail and it generates different cocktail recipes every time you use the app. Every single recipe can be shared through E-mail, Twitter and Facebook. This app requires users to meet the legal drinking age first before you can download it. Another cool feature is that you can shake your iPhone or iPod Touch to generate random cocktail recipes if you do not like to browse through all the recipes.

When you load the application, you will see a list of five horizontal navigation buttons and they are Browse All Drinks, Browse By Category, Browse by Ingredient, Favorites and Find Liquor Stores.

The Browse All Drinks function contains all the drink recipes in an alphabetically order and for each drink recipe, you can update or share your drink recipe to your Facebook,  Twitter or Email. The Browse  by category feature contains seven categories: Cocktails, Martinis, Shooters, Jello Shots, Hot Drinks, Punches and Non-Alcoholic. Each category recipes has its own drinking glass icon next to it and I think it’s very unique. Browse by ingredient, has three types: Liquor, Mixes and Garnish. The Favorites is similiar to bookmark. The coolest and usefull part is the find liquor stores. It uses GPS and Google map to find all the liquor stores around your current location. It ‘s very useful especially when you are at an unfamiliar place and you want to buy liquors.

The bottom of the app  contains few useful tabs. First one is the Liquor Cabinet tab and its purpose is to find any drink combination of the ingredients that you add to the mixers and the liquors. The second tab is the Random tab, it allows you to find drink recipes by shaking slot machine like interface. Last tab which is the bartending tap,  contains  information in Glassware, Tools, Terminology, How to stock your bar, and Bartending Tips and Tricks.  Those information are for people who wants to be a better bartender.

Personally, I like this app because of the easy user interface and the amount of information that it provides.  It would be great if they could insert an image for each drink recipe. Also, they should make a recommendation or popular drinks for events so that it will be easy for people to use instead of browsing through the whole list and looking for the right recipe.
